A delegation of the United Nations Security Council Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict is in Nigeria for an on- the-Spot- assessment of the implementation of the protecting of children caught in armed conflict and their welfare.

The Head of the Delegation and Ambassador of Malta to the United Nations, Vanessa Frazier stated this during a visit to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Diaster Management, and Social Development in Abuja.

Vanessa Frazier noted that the UN was aware of some mechanisms and measures put in place by Nigeria towards children protection but stressed that much still needed to be done to alleviate violence on children.

” We are here because been on ground helps us to inform our decisions in New York. So, it is good for us to visit certain countries and to see the work with our own eyes and to feel what is happening and what can be done by the United Nations to further support you”, she said.

Responding, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Diaster Management Dr Nasir Sani-Gwarzo said the visit was apt, as recommendations will help the present administration consolidate and improve on its implementation and policies on the subject matter.

UN, Media Executives Sign MoU to advance Gender Equality

  Hadiza Abdulrahman  Experts have advocated increased inclusion of women’s leadership in biodiversity to strengthen sustainable and effective conservation strategies. This was the focus of a roundtable on Women and Biodiversity Leadership, held under the Scientific Diplomacy Programme organized by the Embassy of Spain and the Spanish Cooperation Office in Nigeria, with support from the European Union.
