The women to become ministers
The Federal Executive Council is required by the manifesto to reserve a number of key jobs for women, and the private sector will be encouraged to follow suit.
The president during his inauguration on May 29, 2023 reiterated his promised to feature women in his administration.
The senate finally received the list of ministerial nominees on Thursday, July 27, 2023, and it included 7 women.
Barrister Hannatu Musawa
Barrister Hannatu Musawa, is current the special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Culture and Entertainment.
Hannatu is a graduate from the University of Buckingham in the UK with a law degree and from the University of Cardiff in Wales with a postgraduate master’s degree in the legal aspects of marine affairs.
The Katsina born has been heavily involved in politics over the years and had equally served the Deputy Spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council.
Dr. Betta Edu
Dr. Betta Edu is the National Women Leader for the APC.
Edu graduated with a degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Calabar, Cross River State.
She has served as Cross River State’s Health Commissioner in the recent past.
Dr Betta during the general elections campaign assured women of 35% affirmative action from President Bola Tinubu.
She has also served as the Special Adviser on Women’s Affairs on the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Committee.
Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim
Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim is the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons.
She was the Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) between 2020 and 2021.
Imaan is an indigent of Nasarawa State.
Nkiru Onyeojiocha
Nkiru Onyejeocha was the longest-serving members of the House of Representatives until 2023.
She was first elected a member of the House of Representatives in 2007 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the ruling party at that time.
She defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2018 and won her re-election bid for a fourth term in Nigeria’s Green Chamber in 2019.
Stella Okotete
Between 2011 and 2015, Stella Okotete served as the Special Assistant and Adviser to the Executive Governor of Delta State on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
She was appointed the Executive Director (Business Development) at the Nigeria Export and Import Bank(NEXIM) by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2022.
Uju Kennedy Ohanenye
Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye was the APC only female presidential candidate but later withdrew to back President Bola Tinubu.
She is from Anambra State; a legal practitioner and businesswoman based in Abuja.
Doris Aniche Uzoka,
Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite is the current Commissioner for Finance and Coordinating Economy in Imo State.
She was also a former General Manager of one of the leading commercial banks. She hails from Oguta LGA of Imo State.
Many stakeholders believe that the list fell short of the required 35% affirmative for female representation. All hope is not lost, though, as a second batch is anticipated.
